Green startup CEO for our startup BetterBuild
We are looking for a sales-driven CEO for our startup BetterBuild, which designs and produces prefabricated wood-frame panels insulated with straw for sustainable building projects. The technology combines traditional materials with modern techniques to create energy-efficient and low-carbon structures.
BetterBuild has already secured its first paying customers in Belgium and established a product technology partnership to ensure customer satisfaction and a rapid fleet roll-out.
As the CEO, you will co-launch this venture alongside One Planet Studio and its partners. You will gradually build up a fleet, optimize unit utilization, manage costs, and be responsible for achieving company objectives (revenue & decarbonization).
YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
The CEO will have operational responsibilities in Business Development, HR, Finance, Legal, and Operations (including maintenance and warehousing):
Sales & Business Development
- Develop and execute a go-to-market strategy, identifying target customer groups.
- Adapt the pricing strategy to maximize market penetration and profitability.
- Lead sales initiatives to achieve revenue targets as part of the roll-out strategy.
- Build a strong pipeline of new accounts and assess their technical and financial feasibility.
- Expand market share and establish long-term partnerships (sales channels, logistics, etc.).
- Identify opportunities and threats and develop a short- and mid-term business plan.
- Co-create communication strategies and tools to represent the company effectively.
- Build a strong industry network and negotiate with key stakeholders, including sector organizations and contractors.
- Represent the company at industry conferences and events.
- Provide monthly reports on business development progress.
- Develop sustainability frameworks for construction, events, and film (e.g., CO₂ performance, EU Taxonomy), focusing on incentive mechanisms like carbon credits/offsets.
Human Resources (HR)
- Recruit and lead a team (COO, commercial, and technical team).
- Monitor team performance in prospecting, feasibility studies, and partnerships.
- Coach and motivate the team to achieve targets.
Finance
- Manage the fundraising (200K€) with Business Angels, the OPS investors network, family & friends…(pitchdeck drafting, pitch presentations, etc.)
- Develop the 5-year financial projection in collaboration with the OPS team and the HQ financial guidelines.
- Facilitate collaboration between the HQ finance team and local financial advisors, banks, and insurers.
Legal
- Liaise with local legal advisors under the supervision of the HQ legal department.
- Monitor and ensure compliance with new laws and regulations in Belgium.
Operations
- Oversee operations until a COO is hired.
- Proactively manage maintenance.
- Maintain excellent relationships with logistics partners.
WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TABLE
We are looking for a value-driven self-starter who is passionate about restoring our planet and using their entrepreneurial experience to accelerate our mission.
Passions:
- Sustainability – a strong commitment to decarbonization.
- Construction – understanding this industry, as it is our main market.
Experience:
- At least 4 years of experience in B2B sales.
- Experience and/or a network in the construction industry (preferred).
Key competences:
- Leadership – ability to inspire and lead teams.
- Sales & Communication – strong vision and ability to deliver a compelling message to diverse audiences.
- Project Management – experience handling large and small projects professionally.
- Account Management – experience with SLAs, contract management, and financial oversight.
- Team Building – ability to assemble and lead a results-driven team.
- Resilience – comfortable navigating uncertainty and risk inherent to a startup.
- Languages – Fluency in French and Dutch (one of these is a must).
- Education – Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
- Bonus: Holding a VOL-VCA certificate is a plus.
